Questions, Answered

Your inquiries about ARC Rising and our mission to nurture healing are important to us.
What types of healing programs do you offer for people and animals?

ARC Rising is here to carry forward the mission of healing that was previously spearheaded by others and to be present for and within the Flathead Reservation with leadership that is responsive to local communities, rooted within them and sensitive to the challenges that Flathead Reservation communities and nonprofits face. Programs will emphasize trauma healing, spay-neuter and veterinary support, support for pet owners struggling with addiction, community organizing and empowerment, animal emergency response and adoption. We will provide more specific information in coming weeks and months.

How can I participate in your community healing practices?

Engaging with our community healing practices is simple and welcoming. One of the best ways to engage is to foster an animal or volunteer for an event. As we build our capacity and online presence, more information will be forthcoming. In the meantime, you can reach us at 406-287-6576 or email us at director@arcrising.org.

Are your human services reserved for Tribal members only?

The ARC Rising mission is to serve the communities of the Flathead Reservation. Although we do not provide support, therapy or other social programs to non-Reservation residents, we do not distinguish between Tribal and non-Tribal members who live on the Reservation. Nonetheless, we foresee and hope that our services will be utilized by many Tribal members, and we intend to encourage this in all possible ways.  In fact, this is written into our Cultural Sensitivity Position Statement.

Do you have a physical location?

Not yet but we are strongly committed to securing a location as soon as possible and launching a mini veterinary teaching clinic that will provide urgently needed services on the Reservation.

Do you only rescue dogs from the Reservation?

Our policy is to prioritize dogs needing rescue and rehabilitation of the Flathead Reservation of western Montana, but we envision and embrace the possibility of serving and transferring dogs from other Montana reservations if a time comes when local needs are being adequately being met.  We might, on a very rare emergency occasion, accept an animal from local areas outside reservations.

Are you associated with or managed by CSKT?

ARC is an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization - a non-governmental entity.  As such, it is not formally associated with the Tribes.  However, we are looking forward to working closely with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), and our founding and guiding philosophy includes a pledge to not only serve primarily the Tribal communities of the Flathead Reservation but also to engage the Tribal community in the active participation in ARC's mission on all levels of the organization.

Furthermore, we leave open the possibility into entering into formal, cooperative, and contractual relationships with the Tribes in the future, if these arrangements better help us better serve the needs of the local communities.  In fact, our Paws on the Ground (POG) program envisions this arrangement as a mechanism to enable the future implementation of a Tribal Animal Ordinance for the Flathead Reservation.

How can I get in touch?

You can reach us at director@arcrising.org or call 406-287-6576. We will get back to you promptly.

A place where healing goes both ways...

The ARC Rising mission is to cultivate reciprocal healing for the people and animals of the Flathead Reservation.  In support of the mission we:

·        Offer healing: provide animal-assisted healing for trauma victims and at-risk youth of the Flathead Reservation

·        Respond to crisis: engage in grassroots outreach seeking to identify community members in crisis due to lack of support or access to services.  Collaborate with law enforcement, veterinarians and other partners to provide field rescue and response for at-risk animals, while offering support to indigent families with animals in crisis (e.g., injury, illness or deprivation).

·        Alleviate suffering: help alleviate the suffering of people and animals throughout the Flathead Reservation

·        Promote autonomy: collaborate with community partners to develop autonomous crisis-prevention and crisis-response capacity within indigenous Flathead Reservation communities, with an emphasis on education and veterinary facilities/capacity.

·        Respect culture: provide a culturally sensitive and engaged grassroots entity that encourages tribal involvement in its mission on all levels and seeks to build bridges to tribal communities, fostering lasting relationships and access to services for underserved members.

·        Show sensitivity: be present, responsive and sensitive to residents suffering through economic hardship, historical trauma, domestic abuse, or crisis of any other nature.

·        Provide education: aid in the prevention of neglect, abuse and cruelty to animals, with emphasis on humane education for Flathead Reservation youth and residents

·        Make veterinary services available: promote and support the sterilization of dogs and cats on the Flathead Reservation with an emphasis on effective strategies for overpopulation and disease prevention. Provide spay/neuter and veterinary services to economically disadvantaged residents through clinics, low-income assistance and trap-release programs.

·        Help pet owners struggling with addition: promote solutions to and offer pathways to healing for those who feel trapped because they love their animals but need to transition to a better, safer and more loving place in their life.
